Warden Spire
Warden Spire takes the standard tower defence loop and adds one clever twist: enemies can switch lanes mid-run. Suddenly that perfectly placed arrow tower is watching an empty path while a horde slips through elsewhere. It forces you to build for flexibility instead of stacking one killer corner.
Towers upgrade along branching paths, and each branch genuinely changes how it plays. I got a lot of mileage out of a slow-frost setup that funnels everything into a single artillery tower. The maps are hand-designed rather than randomly generated, which shows in how carefully the sightlines are laid out.
It runs smoothly even when the screen is full of projectiles, and the between-wave planning phase can be paused for as long as you like. If you've bounced off tower defence games for feeling too solved, the lane-swap gimmick is worth a look.
